Am I Spontaneous?

What are we watching this week?

This is a talk given by Jonah Yoelin at TEDx UniversityofNevada. Here, Jonah challenges us to think about how life might be if we already knew what to expect from it. Jonah takes his experiences from improv theatre to describe how spontaneity can positively impact our lives.

We are interested in what Jonah has to say about growing more comfortable with uncertainty in life. His urge for us to appreciate the unexpected, the unplanned, and the beauty of surprise hit a chord with us at I Am Here.

What are we reading this week?

This is an article from Calm detailing how spontaneity can make us happier. It highlights the tendency of our modern lives to be over-scheduled and over-planned. This can compromise our mental health and wellbeing and rob us of our joy. However, the piece reminds us of the benefits and happiness to be gained from spur-of-the-moment decisions.

We agree with how over-strategizing can lead to the loss of new experiences and losing out on the wonders of our world. We also like the suggested seven ways to be spontaneous, especially the suggestion of creating “micro-moments” of freedom.

Who are we quoting this week?

“I’m not very good at making specific plans.

Just meet me under the sky somewhere

And be alive with me”

– Victoria Erickson

There is something liberating about this quote that we at I Am Here enjoy. We like its optimism, its hope, and its sense of adventure. We hope you do too!
