The critical impact of your nervous system.

What are we looking at this week?

What do you think about yourself? How we view and think about ourselves plays a huge role in our mental health and wellbeing.

Mike Finnegan, Mental Health and Child Protection Advocate, posted an observation on LinkedIn which features two €20 notes.

He asks, “Is the one on the right worth less than what’s on the left?” Despite one looking pristine, and the other crumpled up, they’re both still worth €20.

We can often judge ourselves and undervalue our real worth.

At I Am Here, we love how Mick’s post captures this truth in a very simple image.

It’s ok to not feel ok; and it’s absolutely ok to ask for help.

As always, we welcome your thoughts, your own experiences, and reflections on our Facebook, X, Instagram and LinkedIn pages.

What are we watching this week?

Do you have a daily routine? Maybe it’s as simple as waking up, taking a shower, and brushing your teeth? Or maybe it involves more?

Justin Caffrey, CIFD, MSc, shares his morning routine with us in a LinkedIn post and video. Every day he gets up, takes a walk, and swims in the sea. Self-care morning routines can help reduce anxiety, stress and mood swings, as well as increase focus and build a resilient mindset

What is your daily routine? Do you find it helps you? What happens if you skip it one day?

The goal of I Am Here is to change the world; one compassionate connection at a time.

Who are we listening to this week?

Did you know that your nervous system plays a vital role in your mental health and wellbeing?

Deborah Dana is Founder of Sounds True. She is also a clinician and consultant specializing in using Polyvagal Theory to understand and resolve the impact of trauma and create ways of working that honor the role of the autonomic nervous system.

In this podcast, Deborah is interviewed about the Polyvagal Theory, how we “shape” our nervous system, and how we can “anchor” ourselves.

Science tells us that our nervous system impacts several of the six pillars of mental health and wellbeing identified by I Am Here (which include Emotional Wellbeing, Physical Health, and Social Wellbeing).

The podcast discusses these ideas in a way that’s easy to follow. It’s certainly given us food for thought. What do you think of it?
